TMJ
Physical Therapists CAN help with TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) pain and dysfunction! The TMJ is a very dynamic joint on both sides of the jaw that allow you to open, close, and laterally deviate your jaw. Lots of individuals develop dysfunctions in the TMJ from improper bite, impairments in neck mobility, and even just poor posture! Slumped sitting with your jaw jutted forward can cause a lot of stress to your jaw. TMJ pain or dysfunction can present as clicking/catching/locking when trying to open/close the jaw, such as while eating; it can also be a dull, aching pain in the jaw that radiates through the surrounding area.
